The government of the state of Pará formalized in September 2014 the Protocol of Socio-environmental Intentions of Palm Oil. The initiative unites the public power and the private initiative, seeking joint actions aimed at the sustainable development of the productive chain of palm oil.
The protocol is a result of a work executed in three years, with the intention of collaborating so that the expansion of the activity happens in a sustainable way, in areas that have been already anthropized; in other words, that have already been deforested and can be used for culture. The document sets the commitment of the field with sustainability.
The document was signed by representatives of the Departments of the State of Pará (Agriculture; Economic Development and Incentive to Production; Environment), the Pará Land Instutite, the Green Municipalities Program, the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of Pará (Faepa), the National Service of Rural Learning, the Bank of the Amazon, the Bank of the State of Pará and the Brazilian Association of Palm Oil Producers (Abrapalma).
